Changes Coming to DSP and Independent Provider Training on DODD MyLearning
Attention: Agency Providers, Intermediate Care Facilities, Independent Providers, Direct Support Professionals
On January 1, 2022, the training sections of the agency waiver provider and independent provider rules go into effect (OAC 5123-2-08 and 5123-2-09). 
 
Due to this change of rule, six new role-based online courses will be available in DODD MyLearning on December 31. They are listed below. Click here to view a screenshot of the new MyLearning homepage. 
  • DSP of waiver services – Initial
  • DSP of waiver services – Annual
  • Independent provider – Initial
  • Independent provider – Annual
  • DSP at an ICF/IID – Initial
  • DSP at an ICF/IID – Annual
 
Through December 30, 2021, DSPs and independent providers can continue to use the Eight-Hour Provider Training for initial and annual training. The Eight-Hour Provider Training will be archived and will no longer be accessible December 31, 2021. Learners should complete any needed courses and download certificates needed on or before December 30. A record of completion will always appear on learner transcripts, available by clicking “Transcripts and Completions” at the top menu bar of MyLearning. 
  • Note: DSPs who work at ICFs, who previously used the Eight-Hour Provider Training, can use the DSPs at an ICF/IID Initial and Annual courses for certification and re-certification.

Lawrence County DD partners with numerous local agencies and independent providers that deliver high-quality services to individuals with developmental disabilities living in Lawrence County.

Minimum Certification Qualifications

You must be at least 18 years of age
You must hold a high school diploma or GED
You must have a valid social security number and one form of identification such as a state of Ohio identification card, valid driver’s license, or other government issued photo identification.
You must not be on the abuser registry
You must not be on the nurse aide registry
You must be able to read, write, and understand English in a way to communicate with clients
You must hold a valid American Red Cross (or equivalent certification) in first aid.
You must hold a valid American Red Cross (or equivalent certification) in CPR.
You must complete 8 hours of training in the following topics. Overview of serving individuals with Developmental Disabilities, Rights of individuals, Overview of basic principles and requirements of providing home and community based services, Incidents adversely affecting health and safety, Universal precautions for infection control.

Background Check Law
This is the law that requires independent providers to have a fingerprint background check.
